Saving for the Future

Honestly, when I started working at the age of 21, the word “SAVING” has not really sink into my mind. Half of my 1st salary was given to my mom and half of it was spend to buy a new cell phone. For the last 3 years, my money was spend for our monthly electricity bill, air fare tickets, bags, shoes, clothes and going out with friends was my precedence.

Now that I am a mom at the age of 25, my priority is my son and his future. I felt dreadful of what I did before but not to too late to do things right.  When I got pregnant with Dirk last July 2012, I immediately opened a savings bank account. I disciplined myself that I need to allocate money to put in a monthly basis and deposit on this account. Here in my workplace, I also joined a Cooperative Org. were in regular employees can also save money through instant salary deduction, depending on how much will you pledge to allocate in your monthly salary as your personal savings.

Years from now, Dirk will be going to school and lots of additional expenses will be coming my way. It is better to be ready and prepared for these things.

Farmer’s Fund Drive - Human Heart Nature

I am a Filipino, I love Mother Nature and I am proud to be one. Because of this, I am serving to cascade information for others to be AWARE.

As of the moment, Human Heart Nature is having Farmer’s Fund Drive. This drive helps combat dengue while battling poverty. Dengue, as most of us know, is one of the common death reasons of young and adults. In this drive, 100% of the profits from every Bug Shield Oil and Bug Shield Lotion sold by Human Heart Nature will fund the development of sustainable livelihood for our partner farming communities in Malaybalay, Bukidnon. The GOAL is to sell 50,000 bottles which will fund the citronella oil processing facilities in Brgy. Imbayao and Brgy. San Jose in Bukidnon. Citronella is also known as “mosquito-repelling plant”.

Bug Shield Oil - Product Description
Your trusted citronella insect repellant now packs an even more powerful punch against pesky mosquitoes with our improved Bug Shield DEET-Free Oil (formerly Bug Spray). Now infused with soy bean oil and eucalyptus oil for an added boost of protection and an even better scent!

Did you know: DEET which is used in many insect repellents was developed for military warfare and not for daily, long-term use. Studies have shown that long-term exposure to DEET kills brain neurons and affects the central nervous system.

Bug Shield Lotion - Product Description
A one-two punch of protection for you and your family. Ban dengue and DEET the safe and natural way!

Get tough on bugs with the protection of our all natural Bug Shield lotion! Harmful on the mozzies but gentle on your family’s everyday use, this non-sticky, easy-to-apply, pleasantly scented, DEET-free lotion has been especially formulated for everyday use in school or at the office.

Summer is the perfect time for the great outdoors. But don’t let bites and itchiness put a damper on a good time! Make sure to keep sand fleas, mosquitoes, and all those pesky bugs at bay with our DEET-free natural Bug Shield. Whether you’re camping, hiking or on a picnic, keep a small bottle to stay protected and safe while being active!

Did you know: DEET is a known neurotoxin found in many pesticides and bug repellents. Studies have linked DEET to neurological damage. Once it enters the bloodstream, it makes its way to the nervous system, where it has even been known to cause seizures and death in extreme overexposure cases. It can be especially harmful to children and babies.* Why risk it?

These products are Dermatologist-tested as non-irritating and safe.

Join us as we show the farmers our commitment to help end poverty for them!

For more information, do visit Human Heart Nature.

Signs of a Happy Little Man

I am very much thankful to our God almighty for blessing Dirk his very cheerful disposition every day. Others said that bubbly and smiling babies are showing a sign on how good and healthy they are. As of the moment, our little man is in his teething stage, I was too paranoid that he might get sick during this stage but thank God because he is really doing well.

Dirk loves to play with his Tita Kristine; giggles a lot, plays with his toys, singing and babbling out loud and runs around our little room. He stumbles and fall but instead of crying, he laughs. I can really see the happiness on his face when he explores new things around him. Exploring new things is very crucial in his stage, putting his finger inside the electric outlet, in the electric fan and inside the freezer. I just find it funny because when his Lola Vangie will tell NO, the more he will do it with matching smile.

We parents needs to understand these things that our little darlings loves to do, proper guidance and support is very important in this stage of their lives.

Free Article : WHY IS PROFESSIONAL APPEARANCE SO IMPORTANT AT WORK?

I got this free article from LEAD Career Mover, a training and consultancy firm located here in Cebu City. I am sharing to you this free article, this might be a great help for all of us.

WHY IS PROFESSIONAL APPEARANCE SO IMPORTANT AT WORK?

You never get a second chance to make a first impression.  Appearance counts all the time – from the job application, interviews, meetings and appointments, right through to every day on the job.  Don’t forget – you represent your company, and your image is that company’s essence.  Your employer’s goal is to have employees project a favorable image; your goal is to represent the employer and yourself in a favorable way.
Your first impression may influence how people will react to the way you look and present yourself
in the beginning, even if you look and act differently later on.  The way you look and act at work is critical to your success on the job.
Why do people have to get dressed up in conservative suits to go to work anyway? Why not wear casual
clothes?  The answer is that you appear more competent and professional, and you portray confidence,
clad in this attire – as opposed to just a t-shirt and jeans.   This means wearing the traditional dark suit and white shirt.  There is no question that we are all being judged on our appearance. To be noticed, recognized and create influence, we have to take the time to make a good impression on others.

Good appearance makes you feel great about yourself, your self-confidence, and your attitude towards life.  You attract a positive energy and you start to notice that people start paying more attention to you. This makes you feel better about yourself and enables you to project positive inner emotions.

People re-entering the workforce often need some encouragement and reassurance. Below are great Tips for ensuring your professional appearance is at its best.

Business Attire

What do your clothes say about you? Clothes you wear depend a lot on the environment you work in. Take a look at what your colleagues and other people in that environment are wearing, and dress to fit in. A professional appearance is quite important. Look your best and be proud of how you look.  It is very important to dress to enhance your appearance so that the interviewer can concentrate on your qualifications.  For women, the best attire to wear at work is something with solid colours such as a navy, grey or black suit or dress that is knee length with dark shoes or high-heels.  Avoid miniskirts.  Be sure that heels are about 1 ½ - 2 inches high, no stilettos, or open toed shoes that attract too much attention to your feet. You want to be taken seriously.   Avoid flashy jewellery.  Men should wear a classic dark suit – whether it’s navy, grey or black - and a white long sleeved shirt that is cleaned and neatly pressed in case you need to remove your jacket. Ties must be conservative with no cartoons or sporting events displayed on them.  Socks must match the suit and not show any leg.  Men should wear black leather shoes – oxfords or loafers, but make sure they are polished and in good condition.  Like women, less accessories is the best approach – no earrings and use cologne sparingly, about two to three hours prior.

The key is to buy outfits that are of good quality and classic design for both men and women.  The same rule applies for purchasing shoes.  They are to be comfortable, stylish and polished.  Purchase versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched with your existing work wardrobe.

Grooming

What goes into grooming? It’s the basics for both genders: your hair, nails and teeth. Knowing what hairstyle will look good on you is very important.  The hair should be manageable and not wild.  It should be neatly combed.  Avoid excessive hairspray and ornaments in the hair.  Wild hair will get you attention, but not the attention you want. Hair should be clean, current and flattering.  It’s often better for men to be clean shaven because excess hair, whether a beard or a pony tail, could be very risky in a conservative workplace.

Nails are to be clean, trimmed and in good condition.  Your hygiene, grooming, posture, smile, tone of voice, hair and nails are very important.  Breath and body odor should be fresh, clean and pleasant.  Teeth are clean, white and the smile is attractive.  Clothing and eyewear are clean and in good condition.  Keep your make-up natural.  Little or no make-up is best.  Do not use too much perfume; remember a lot of people could be allergic to perfume.  Spray it on two to three hours beforehand, so it becomes more subtle.

To increase your chances for success, remember to offer a warm smile, maintain eye contact and offer
a firm handshake.  Let the interviewer or client see that you are a person who pays attention to detail.  It’s also very important to arrive at your appointment about fifteen minutes early.  Use the washroom to compose yourself and make sure you are neat and tidy.

Communication

Our looks and behaviors are called nonverbal communication.  They send a powerful message, whether we intend them to or not.  Grooming, the condition of your clothes, your posture, tone of voice, facial expression, hand gestures, how close you stand to the other person, eye contact and body image are all factors/impressions that other people receive from you.

How to be a Responsible Credit Card User

In our generation today, most of us are already using credit cards to purchase our needs and wants. I got my first credit card last 2008. At first I was really hesitant to use it because of the bad feedback I have heard from those who have credit cards. But now, with my four credit cards I am using now, here are some points I consider while using my credit cards:

• Learn to BUDGET
One of the reasons why we enjoy using our credit cards is we “PAY LATER”. But always make sure that you have allotted a budget for what you bought.

• Purchase things that are NEEDS
As a new mom, I use my credit cards to purchase the basic needs of my little boy like his milk, baby food, diapers, vitamins, feeding and bottle needs, bathing needs, and clothing stuffs.

• Go for PROMOS
Most of the credit card companies are having promos for their avid users (can really save a lot), I usually subscribe to email and SMS alert so that I am aware of the different promo offers of my credit cards.

• Know your LIMITS
There are really instances where in we got tempted to swipe for items that we do not really need (but we really want), if that’s the case, just be aware of your limits, if you are really capable paying those items and you have a budget for it, so swipe it out.

We need to be aware and responsible for all our actions, let our credit cards be beneficial to us, not a burden.

A Collection of MOTHERHOOD Quotes

I am really having fun reading different motherhood quotes in the web. Some I love and some I don’t. In honoring the Mother’s Day celebration around the world, here are some motherhood quotes that you might find satisfying and rewarding to read or ponder. Enjoy reading!

“Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs in my field, since the payment is pure love.” - Mildred B. Vermont

“The natural state of motherhood is unselfishness. When you become a mother, you are no longer the center of your own universe. You relinquish that position to your children.” - Jessica Lange

“ Motherhood is a great honor and privilege, yet it is also synonymous with servant hood. Every day women are called upon to selflessly meet the needs of their families. Whether they are awake at night nursing a baby, spending their time and money on less-than-grateful teenagers, or preparing meals, moms continuously put others before themselves.” - Charles Stanley

“Completeness? Happiness? These words don't come close to describing my emotions. There truly is nothing I can say to capture what motherhood means to me, particularly given my medical history.” - Anita Baker

“Motherhood has completely changed me. It's just about like the most completely humbling experience that I've ever had. I think that it puts you in your place because it really forces you to address the issues that you claim to believe in and if you can't stand up to those principles when you're raising a child, forget it.” - Diane Keaton

‎"Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff while they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff." - Catherine M. Wallace

“ A mother's happiness is like a beacon, lighting up the future but reflected also on the past in the guise of fond memories.” - Honoré de Balzac

“Mother is the name of God in the lips and hearts of children”. - William Makepeace Thackeray

“ The hand that rocks the cradle, Is the hand that rules the world.” - W. R. Wallace

"There's only one beautiful child in the world and every mother has it." - Anonymous

Mental Health Month - May 2013

The month of May is also known as the “Mental Health Month”. I am very much “IN” about this topic and as a Psychology Graduate, I must do my part regarding this matter. I have found this article and do hope this will serve as an awareness and eye opener for all of us.

“For more than 60 years, Mental Health America and their affiliates across the country have led the observance of May is Mental Health Month by reaching millions of people through the media, local events and screenings. This year's theme is Pathways to Wellness.

Key Messages

Wellness - it's essential to living a full and productive life. It's about keeping healthy as well as getting healthy. This involves a set of skills and strategies that prevent the onset or shorten the duration of illness and promote recovery and well-being.

Wellness is more than an absence of disease. It involves complete general, mental and social well-being. And mental health is an essential component of overall health and well-being. The fact is our overall well-being is tied to the balance that exists between our emotional, physical, spiritual and mental health.

Whatever our situation, we are all at risk of stress given the demands of daily life and the challenges it brings-at home, at work and in life. Steps that build and maintain well-being and help us all achieve wellness involve a balanced diet, regular exercise, enough sleep, a sense of self-worth, development of coping skills that promote resiliency, emotional awareness, and connections to family, friends and community.

These steps should be complemented by taking stock of one's well-being through regular mental health checkups and screenings. Just as we check our blood pressure and get cancer screenings, it's a good idea to take periodic reading of our emotional well-being.

Fully embracing the concept of wellness not only improves health in the mind, body and spirit, but also maximizes one's potential to lead a full and productive life. Using strategies that promote resiliency and strengthen mental health and prevent mental health and substance use conditions lead to improved general health and a healthier society: greater academic achievement by our children, a more productive economy, and families that stay together.”

Dirk's Cocoa Butter Melt : Review

This is the 3rd product (BY NATRUE Handmade Soap) I used for my little man. After I used the Baby Blue soap for him, I tried this Cocoa Butter Melt. I bought this from Ms.+Shelley Madarang  a week ago and as of the moment I am using this for Dirk.

At first, I thought that both soap will have a different effect (Regular bar compared to Special Bar) but I was wrong. Baby blue soap really helped my endeavor in keeping the skin of Dirk smooth as possible. And now that I am using the Cocoa Butter melt for him, so pleased because it has the same effect with Baby Blue Soap, No more insect bites. The fairness and the smoothness of the skin of my son were maintained by these soaps.

Dirk's 1st Simala Trip : A Visit to Mama Mary

Since my college years, me and my friends visits Simala (located in Sibonga Cebu, 2 hrs land trip from Cebu City) to ask Mama Mary for guidance and help for the different endeavors we encounter. Not only we go there to ask something, but we also go there to give thanks to Mama Mary for never leaving our side during in times that we really need her help.

Last 2012, The “Birhen sa Simala” or “Birhen sa Lindogon” became my refuge when my little boy got sick when he was born. Again, I asked the help of Mama Mary to heal my Baby Dirk. With Her divine intervention and God’s Healing power, my son was healed.

From that moment, I promised Mama Mary to offer a visit with Baby Dirk as a sign of my deepest gratitude for healing my son.

Hello Mama Mary, I am Dirk ♥
